Harriet, a born humanitarian and entrepreneur raised in East Africa, witnessed the impact of poverty and gender inequality firsthand. Guided by her grandmother's teachings, she embodies independence and a commitment to serving others. After pursuing education in England and settling in New York City, Harriet founded Harkiss Designs in 2011, aiming to showcase beautifully crafted African jewelry and support local artisans, particularly women providing for their families. Partnering with 11 artisans and employing 300 individuals, her designs reflect Africa's beauty and cultural richness. Concurrently, Harriet established Lend a Hand Uganda USA (LAHU-USA) to aid underprivileged Ugandan children, with a portion of Harkiss Designs' proceeds supporting this cause. To date, nearly $200K has been raised through sales and donations, embodying Harriet's commitment to making a meaningful impact.
