Amethyst. One of the most beautiful materials found on Earth. Produced in volcanic rock cavities with deposits of silica, the purple color comes from trace amounts of iron reacting to irradiation. 

Greeks used amethyst for protection against drunkenness, out of all things! Until the XVIII Century it was part of the cardinal stones, due to its scarcity, when deposits were found in Brazil, its value decreased considerably, and it is today considered a semiprecious stone.
