It was first discovered in Minas Gerais, Brazil, although contested by it being also found around the same time in the state of Maine, US. Pink quartz is very rarely found in crystals, it is found in matrix form. At number 7 in the mohs hardness scale, it can be cut into pieces of considerable size, but it requires a delicate hand to polish.
